Liberal Democrat Home Office Minister Norman Baker, Lincolnshire, UK, has criticized self-service checkout kiosks as an "invitation to steal," according to the Lincolnshire Echo.
The criticism comes in the wake of the Office for National Statistics' crime survey findings showing that shoplifting has gone up six percent in England and Wales. Records indicate 34 of the 43 areas examined experienced an increase in shoplifting from the year prior.
Baker said that gas stations and supermarkets need to enforce measures that discourage customers leaving without paying at self-service checkouts, the article said.
