Two Boston-based CVS pharmacies in the Jamaica Plain section of the city plan to close their checkout kiosks in favor of manned registers. This is a reversal of CVS's initiative to speed up the checkout process with self-service kiosks, according to a report by Jamaica Plain News.
The CVS locations are on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain. Several Boston locations have also removed their checkout kiosks. According to a report by Fortune, two CVS stores in west suburban Boston decided to remove the kiosks.
A CVS spokesperson denied that this was part of a corporate decision, but rather is a case-by-case basis. The spokesperson said that assisted self-check out kiosks would remain in some stores.
