The Transportation Security Administration has introduced a touchless identity verification system at Albuquerque International Sunport, according to a KOAT Action News report, allowing eligible TSA PreCheck travelers to move through security without presenting a physical ID or boarding pass. Passengers simply stand in front of a kiosk camera, which captures an image and compares it to a photo associated with their airline record to verify their identity.
The program is currently available to passengers flying on American, Alaska, Delta, Southwest and United airlines who have enrolled through their airline's rewards program and uploaded passport information. TSA officials say the system reduces document handling and speeds the screening process, making security checkpoints more efficient and convenient for travelers.
While some passengers have raised questions about privacy and data security, TSA officials said the technology has been thoroughly tested and incorporates strong security measures. The touchless ID program is now available at 65 airports nationwide as the agency continues expanding biometric screening options.
