Toronto vending machines are dispensing "finely packaged" European baked goods and cufflinks for customers at the Cumberland Terrace mall of Yorkville, according to aNational Post article.
A previously desolate corner of the mall houses the "posh looking" machines made by Signifi Solutions. A soft glow showcases an array of baked goods and cufflinks that customers can browse through a digital catalog. One woman stopped to buy a pair of guitar-emblazoned cufflinks for $65 as a Christmas present for her husband, the article said.
The Solo includes anti-vandal, Lexan 10+10 security glass, external armor gauge steel, security locks, alarm, Web cam option, electronic opening and low-consumption LED lighting. Users can display electric prices on each shelf that automatically update based on weight.
"Signifi is working on a national roll out of automated retail units for high end bakery items" said Linda Martin, vice president of marketing at Signifi."Our goal is to bring high quality products and brands to non-traditional, high traffic locations."
"Twitter and Facebook integration has been well received with passerbys. It's great to watch people stopping and taking photos of the units" said Gino Tomaro, Signifi's sales director. "People want to order additional products just so they can watch the robotics and they love to share this with friends."
Other vending kiosk models by Signifi include The Gamer, The Hero and The Valet.
