Switch to kiosks brings sales jump

The AECOM engineering firm near Richmond, Va., replaced its vending machines in its employee break area with self-service kiosks and saw sales jump three to four times, according to theRichmond Bizsense.
North Carolina-based Avanti Markets provides the technology for the break room where employees scan the barcode of the items they wish to purchase and pay with cards.
Halloran's provides the kiosks, which offer a local caterer's fresh meals that can be heated in a microwave. Halloran's is a multimillion-dollar business with about 1,000 vending machines and 20 employees. The company is shifting from vending machines to self-service markets, adding three or four a month.
