Reno parking kiosk problems continue

August 23, 2012

Curb System, the embattled Reno, Nev., parking kiosk manufacturer, has asked the Reno City Council for an extension on its August deadline to complete work and repairs on the problematic system.

According to RGJ.com, the city council will wait until next week to approve any extension.

As KioskMarketplace.com reported earlier this month, a year after Curb System installed the electronic parking kiosks in downtown Reno, the city lost about $300,000 in revenue, largely from kiosk glitches such as blank screens and unresponsive keypads that forced the city to dismiss 536 parking tickets, up from the five dismissed the year before.

Representatives from Curb System told the city council that they needed until the end of the year to fix the kiosk's faulty wiring and finish the installation of the sensors that will detect when a car is parked in an unpaid spot.

"The resounding sentiment is they all want to work to make this work," said Patty Wade, a consultant hired by Curb System. "Curb is a local company. They have local investors."
