Redbox to increase Blu-ray discs

March 9, 2011

Redbox plans to increase the number of Blu-ray Disc titles in its kiosks, Coinstar CFO Scott Di Valerio said this week at the Wedbush 2011 Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference in New York. He said the DVD rental company's focus will be on "more rentable genres" such as action movies. Redbox plans to add 5,000 to 6,000 new kiosks in 2011 and will increase its Blu-ray penetration to more than 10 percent.

Di Valerio said he expects Blu-ray to do better in the fourth quarter, but the company has taken steps to better understand the format.

"We are very bullish on the Blu-ray opportunity and think it is certainly accretive," he said.
