Quad-Cities Visitors Bureau launches fleet of wayfinding kiosks

Wayfinding and information kiosks have arrived in the Quad-Cities, the region made up of Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, and Moline and Rock Island in Illinois.

The Quad-Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau announced its Tourist Assistance Portal, or TAP, at a Tuesday morning news conference, qctimes.com reported.

The 42-inch touchscreen kiosks have been installed in nine locations in and around the Quad-Cities, with an additional two units on hand for portability to special events, meetings and conventions. The app-based operating system (which requires no Internet connection) links users to maps, menus, photo galleries and discounts to hotels and restaurants.

Information on the screens will be updated daily, providing an opportunity to adjust the alerts for weather-related issues, traffic problems or even a sold-out event, broadening the kiosk's target audience to include local residents as well.

"We want these kiosks to be there for everybody," said Margo McInnis, VP of visitor services. "Sometimes you don't realize what's in your back yard."
