Qatar National Library launches accessible kiosk for heritage collections

Qatar National Library has launched an Accessible Digital Kiosk that lets visitors with disabilities explore items from its Heritage Library, according to a press release. The kiosk presents more than 100 selected items through formats designed to make historical materials easier to experience.

The kiosk includes Braille interfaces, detailed tactile representations and sign-language content featuring Bo-Hamad, an avatar that uses Qatari Sign Language. The library said the features are intended to serve visitors with visual or hearing disabilities.

The project was funded by the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council and developed with Mada Assistive Technology Center. The kiosk is now available at Qatar National Library. The library described it as the first device of its kind, a claim that has not been independently verified.
