Press a button for face-to-face contact with English Council

January 30, 2011

Residents in Malmesbury, a town in Wiltshire, England, could find themselves talking face-to-face with Wiltshire Council officials in distant offices at the touch of a button, according to a story in the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.

County officials plan to install 20 kiosks, allowing people who can't travel to the council's builidng to voice their concerns via kiosks with Skype-like technology.

Customer services director Jackie White said they understand that not everyone was happy using the phone or internet when it came to sorting out problems.

"It means that people can go along to somewhere very local to them and just talk to someone. People like to see a face," she said.

The kiosks also have scanners so people can send documents.
