After shutting down its self-service kiosks due to a security flaw that exposed sensitive case information last year, New Zealand's Ministry of Social Development announced it has begun a new trial of Work and Income kiosks.
Subject to the trial's success, the kiosks will be progressively rolled out to sites nationwide. New Zealanders will be able to use the kiosks for functions that include applying for financial assistance, logging onto their My Account or My Study Link account, and searching for jobs online.
Work and Income Deputy Chief Executive Debbie Power said kiosks are totally separate from the Ministry's networked IT system and have been rigorously tested by independent security experts.
"ICT company Gen-i has developed and tested the kiosks. While no IT solution has zero risk, we've taken every possible step to ensure they are as secure as possible," Power said. "We've struck a balance between providing a tool for our clients to access our online services while protecting client information."
