Revenue generated by kiosks in North America is pegged to jump a 6.1 percent compound annual growth rate to $4.4 billion by 2024, according to Transparency Market Research (TMR), a research firm. The United States has led the growth, thanks to the presence of established players, accounting for a revenue share just short of 90 percent in the North America kiosk market in 2015.
Retail and healthcare are the two major kiosk applications in North America, with the retail emerging as the dominant and the fastest growing sector. Within retail, the use of kiosks for bill payment emerged as the largest sub-segment in 2015; in healthcare, the use of kiosks for hospital information held the largest share.
Other sectors for kiosks include travel, tourism, government, financial services and entertainment.
Leading companies in the North America kiosk market are NCR Corporation, Kontron AG, Meridian Kiosks, SlabbKiosks, ZIVELO, Optical Phusion, Inc. (OPI), Wincor Nixdorf AG, RedyRef, Olea Kiosks Inc., Phoenix Kiosk, Kiosk Information Systems, Fujitsu Ltd. and Diebold, Inc.
Kiosks have increased sales as well as efficiency across a range of applications. Customers want to buy products that are easily available, within their budget, and present the required information pertaining to ingredients, product details, nutritional value and others. Products and information provided at kiosks cater to these consumer demands.
In 2014, lighting manufacturer RAB Lighting increased its sales by a 40 percent by using an iPad-turned-kiosk to market its latest product – the digital gondola.
At the same time, high expenditure pertaining to the installation and authorization of kiosks threatens to undermine the growth of the North America kiosk market. “However, with ongoing technological advancements and the various benefits that kiosks present, this impact of this restraint will wane by the end of the forecast period,” the analyst said.
