NCR Corp. has announced the launch of its new line of self-checkout kiosks. Known as the NCR FastLane SelfServ Checkout Release 6, it is designed to offer faster and more efficient service to shoppers, according to the press release.
The kiosk is designed with several key features, including:
- Convertibility. Employees can convert the kiosk from a self-checkout to employee assist mode, during rush hours at retailers. Its bi-optic scanner and display can be rotated up to a maximum of 180 degrees.
- Compact and low profile. It is designed with a zero-bezel display and features a multitouch touchscreen.
- Recycling abilities. The kiosk is designed to accept multiple bills at once, and then recycle up eight different coin denominations and six different note denominations. In addition, the system is built with debris management, so that if a customer drops a key into the cash acceptor accidently, the system will spit it out into the change bowl.
- More accurate scanner. The kiosk is integrated with an NCR RealScan 79, which is designed to offer faster and more accurate scanning, including barcodes displayed on user’s mobile devices. In addition, RealScan 79 also offers option ScanWatch software, which helps prevent users from item switching. In other words, it verifies that an item really is the one the user is scanning and not an expensive item with the wrong barcode on it.
"As retailers continue to reinvent the front of their stores, the flexible, convertible design of our new FastLane solution will give them options to maximize the value of their investment," said Dusty Lutz, general manager of Self-Service, NCR Retail. "Whether it is in a small convenience store or the largest hypermarket, our FastLane Release 6 solution provides better service through a flexible and naturally convenient shopping experience."
