Mumbai transportation kiosks collecting dust

July 10, 2012

Several kiosks in Mumbai's Regionial Transport Offices are doing nothing but gathering dust, according to the Hindustantimes.com. The site reported that the non-functioning kiosks were deployed in 2009 to give citizens transport info during off-hours and to print more than 100 forms.

Initially, more than 30 kiosks were deployed for a cost of Rs40 lakh ($100,000 U.S.). Only about four or five of them are in use. A senior RTO official said that the offices as well as citizens failed in maintaining the machines well, according to the story.

Transport commissioner VN More has promised to look into the issue.

"RTO should have maintained it properly as the machines were of great use," said Nitin Dossa, executive chairman, WIAA.
