The New Orleans startup MobileQubes is piloting the first network of cordless mobile charging kiosks today, according to a company statement.

MobileQubes are cordless battery packs that plug into a mobile device's charging port for charging on the go. Customers can find Qubes at the network of MobileQubes kiosks launching this week in the New Orleans area. The kiosks enable users to rent, return, purchase and recharge their battery pack by swiping a credit card. Qubes are compatible with Android and iPhone.

Rental is $4.99 for the first day, $0.99 cents each following day up to seven days and $39.99 to purchase. Users can return their cordless charger to any MobileQubes kiosk location.

"We're excited to be the first company providing a convenient, affordable solution to the universal problem of insufficient battery life for the 165 million smartphone users in the U.S.," said cofounder and CEO Sean Carrigan in a statement. "Launching the technology at one of the country's top destination cities is proof of the confidence we have in our Qubes to get the job done – keeping consumers, fans and travelers connected and eliminating the hassle caused by a dead or dying battery."

Walk-ons client Scott Taylor said, "MobileQubes will undoubtedly alleviate a huge pain point that bar/restaurant guests across the country face on a daily basis – the need for on-the-go power."
