A recent article on KioskMarketplace addressed the FDA's warning that blood pressure kiosk readings could be inaccurate due to the "one size fits all" arm cuffs typically seen on the machines.
In an October 2014 article published by the Journal of the American Society for Hypertension, medical profesisionals revealed a summary of issues with blood pressure kiosks and urged businesses and health care providers to be "more discriminate" in their choice of kiosks, according to a PharmaSmart press release.
The article stated that PharmaSmart, a Rochester, New York company, is the only blood pressure kiosk that "can be recommended by physicians," the company said. In the article, JASH authors, among them Dr. Dominic Sica, M.D., president of the American Society of Hypertension and blood pressure measurement experts Dr. Richard Dart, M.D. and Dr. Bruce Alpert, M.D., acknowledged the FDA's warning and added, "There is a device currently available (PharmaSmart) that has undergone full validation testing and offers a wide-range cuff validated for almost all US adult arms."
