Major League Baseball All-Star festivities offer self-service beer vending

July 8, 2014

At the Major League Baseball All-Star events, fans at Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, can count on a new addition to concessions: beer vending machines.

According to FoodBeast.com, collaboration between Delaware North and Anheuser-Busch resulted in DraftServ, a self-service beer station where customers buy by the ounce and control how much is poured.

“It’s a way to engage with the customer and allows the fan to have greater control of what they’re drinking,” Jerry Jacobs Jr., principal of Delaware North, said. ”If they want half of a cup, that’s all they will pay for.”

Beers offered include Bud and Bud Light for 38 cents an oz, and for 40 cents an oz, Shock Top Lemon Shandy and Goose Island 312 Urban Pale Ale.

After scanning cards at DraftServ stations, customers show IDs and pay $10, $20, or for a limited time at All-Star festivities, $50 on a preloaded card purchased at stadium cash registers. Employees at each DraftServ will check IDs to prevent underage drinking, Jacobs assured.
