Western Pennsylvania grocery and Walmart stores may be home to 70 more wine kiosks, according to thestandardspeaker.com.
The Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board has already approved wine sales in 30 grocery stores. Those kiosks have built-in breathalyzers. The transaction is terminated if the customer has a blood alcohol level of .02 percent or higher. To prevent underage sales, the customer must insert his driver's license for verification and stand before a camera in the kiosk. An official matches the scan of the driver's license with the customer's image to complete the sale.
The deployments may be in jeopardy, however, if recent efforts to privatize liquor sales in Pennsylvania are successful.
