The self-service technology industry is expected to be worth $31.75 billion by 2020, with the kiosk segment achieving the greatest growth, according to a report by Allied Market Research.

The report, "Global Self-Service Technology Market (ATM Machines, Kiosk Machines, Vending Machines and Geography) - Size, Share, Industry Analysis Trends, Opportunities Growth Segmentation and Forecast, 2014 - 2020," argues that demand for self-service machines will increase in order to meet the needs of customers and reduce manual tasks. Vending kiosks would also gain 57 percent of the new income, due to increased demand in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"The challenge for manufacturers is to provide these self- service machines at effective cost," the report said. "In addition to the challenges posed by different government regulations, surviving in a competitive market is a major challenge for companies operating in the self-service technology market."
