Kiosk at UConn Co-op offers textbook rentals

October 5, 2012

In a move to lower the price-burden of student textbooks, the University of Connecticut Co-op teamed up with Campus Book Rentals and began offering students the alternative to rent the books via a computer kiosk, according to an article on today.uconn.edu.

Students are able to find available books on the rental shelves or search for titles on the kiosks. The textbooks can be scanned directly at the kiosk, with students needing to enter their name, identification number and email before completing the transaction with a credit card payment, the article reported.

This semester, more than 5,540 copies have been rented from the Co-op, with that number expected to grow.

"Students like the idea of being able to rent the book and immediately take it home with them, then and there," said Madeline Spata, textbook division manager of the UConn Co-op. "Students are very pleased that we are doing something to help defray the cost of textbooks. It has already saved the students a significant amount of money."
