KeyMe, the creators of a key copy kiosk, recently received $20 million in Series B funding. It plans to use this investment to deploy almost 1,000 kiosks across the U.S., according to a report from The Chicago Tribune.
KeyMe's kiosk allows users to both copy their own keys for $3 to $5. In addition, the kiosk allows users to create digital copies of their keys. They can then go to any KeyMe and use their fingerprint to pull up their information and create a copy of that key for $20.
According to KeyMe CEO Greg Marsh, the company plans to utilize its funding to deploy additional kiosks and reach a larger audience. "In the next year, we are ramping up the business well over 10 times, and Chicago is a huge part of that," Marsh said. "We found that in urban areas, we are getting particularly strong traction on lock-outs. We've solved thousands of lock-outs in Chicago."
The kiosks can currently not create car keys, but users can put in a request for the company to create one at their headquarters and then ship to them. However, the company plans to create new kiosks that have the ability to copy car keys, according to the report.
