Italy's Coop Group deploys self-scanning by Datalogic

July 18, 2013

The Italian consumer cooperative Coop Estense is rolling out a self-scanning shopping solution by Datalogic. The Coop Group deployed 600 Joya terminals andthe Shopevolution software, according to the announcement from Datalogic.

The self-scanning solution gives shoppers the ability to scan products in-aisle with the Joya device, which functions similarly to a smartphone. Customers point the device at a product barcode and press the scan button, and the device pulls up product pricing and description. In addition, the device monitors the running total of all items scanned while also promoting additional store offers and discounts. Payment is completed by either handing the terminal to a cashier or visiting a self-service checkout kiosk.

"Datalogic realizes it is essential for retailers worldwide to offer options that enhance retail patrons' complete in-store experience from beginning to end," said Joe Guy, VP and GM of Datalogic's Business Solutions Unit. "We are pleased to offer this innovative self-shopping solution that makes shopping enjoyable, effortless and personalized for each customer."
