Intersection to install 100 Wi-Fi kiosks in Philadelphia

April 9, 2018

Intersection will install 100 Wi-Fi kiosks in Philadelphia as early as September, according to govtech.com.

Each Link kiosk comes equipped with 55-inch high-definition screens for advertising and art, an encrypted Wi-Fi network, charging ports and a tablet for making calls. The kiosks already have replaced thousands of phone booths across New York City and the United Kingdom.

The kiosks also have three cameras that will record passersby to discourage vandalism. Kiosk users can also activate the cameras for video calls. In New York, the company is testing sensors that track air quality and traffic.

Eighty of the 100 Philadelphia kiosks will be installed in Center City and University City.

The city and the company will split the advertising revenues. The city is guaranteed at least $450,000 annually, but officials could not estimate how much revenue is expected, since the location of each Link has not been determined.
