iLibrary installation booked for Sadieville, Kentucky

March 27, 2012

Electronic locker and cabinet storage manufacturer Law Enforcement Intelligent Devices LLC announced today that Kentucky's Scott County Public Library will offer extended library access to patrons in Sadieville, Ky., using LEID's iLibrary System. The system is expected to go online on June 10, 2012.

LEID said county library staff concluded that a standalone, self-service branch outside of Sadieville City Hall would present a flexible and economical means to increase the library's visibility and broaden access to its services in underserved areas.

The self-service iLibrary System comprises a new iLibrary Kiosk, LEID’s electronic cabinet/lockers and a library drop box for material returns. The Sadieville unit will include new LEID enhancements to the iLibrary Kiosk, which serves as the point of access to the system. The new kiosk includes a larger screen and an updated look, and the entire system is tamperproof. The Sadieville unit will be housed in a three-wall shelter to allow 24/7 access.

Patrons will be able to browse materials online or directly through LEID’s iLibrary System Kiosk. They may place orders through the kiosk or via the Internet using their library card number, and can choose either email or phone notification when their items are available at the kiosk. Scott County Public Library will deliver materials to the iLibrary Kiosk three times weekly.

“The iLibrary System gives an opportunity to expand on what our bookmobile has done for years — bring life-long learning to our rural areas,” said Earlene Arnette, Scott County Library director. “[F]or our outlying communities of Stamping Ground and Sadieville, we looked at outreach as a way to service these areas without building branches in areas where population cannot efficiently support a facility.”
