IER, a manufacturer of technology for check-in and boarding in the air transportation industry, has released a 2-D barcode reader with integrated RFID technologies to be deployed at all passenger touch points, including ticket counter, security checkpoint, frequent-flyer clubs, service desks and boarding gates.
Passengers can simply wave their contactless cards or NFC-enabled phones to perform identification, credit frequent flyer miles or receive flight information, according to a company press release.
"The large active LCD display brings detailed color graphics and text, guiding passengers to scan their own barcodes, contactless cards or mobile devices. As more passengers and mobile-device manufacturers embrace mobile barcodes and NFC technology, the IER 602 is ready for the airport ofthe future," stated the press release.
IER 602 weighs just over 3 pounds and is less than 5 inches high. Its footprint is only 48 square inches, smaller than the majority of other counter equipment.
