How honest are we? Tea kiosks put public to the test

July 18, 2014

Perhaps taking a cue from a self-service South Korean Café that depends on trustworthiness, Bethesda, M.D.-based Honest Tea is conducting its own honesty experiment. That is, they're testing the public to see how truthful we are.

The company has placed kiosks in 50 metro areas around the country, one in each state. The kiosks will run on the honor system, according to bizjournals.com. The experiment is called the "2014 Honesty Index."

The kiosks will house cold beverages for $1 a bottle and a sign displayed will ask customers to pay for what they consume. If the kiosks are left with any money at the end of the experiment, it will be donated to charity.

Honest Tea did not disclose the locations of the kiosks, the article said. Results will be released at the close of the experiment in mid-August.
