Hospital kiosk in Toronto bridges language divide

June 13, 2013

The North York General Hospital in Toronto has added an interactive touchscreen kiosk to better serve its culturally diverse community, according to a post on insidetoronto.com.

Located in the hospital's main lobby, the Scotiabank Language Services Kiosk helps patients, family members and visitors find their way around the hospital. They can receive printed or digital directions or translations of informational brochures in the top seven languages spoken by patients and visitors to North York General: English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Korean and Farsi.

More than 54 percent of residents living in the hospital's vicinity do not speak English or French as their first language, according to the article.
