Recently, two Catholic churches in El Paso deployed tablet kiosks for attendees to make credit card donations, according to areportby El Paso Times. Janine Young, CEO of the Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso, said this decision was to provide different payment options for younger members.
"Passing the basket and taking those gifts to the altar is a very important part of the Mass. And we will have cards that say 'I gave at the kiosk.'" Young said. "But we have to meet people where they are, and younger people do everything electronically."
The foundation chose two churches on the east side of El Paso that were experiencing growth in families but no growth in donations. The foundation realized that younger attendees do not carry cash or checkbooks, so these kiosks can offer them different payment options.
"We're very confident we'll have more new families giving if we give them the ability to do it," Young said.
