Eindhoven Airport, one of the largest airports in the Netherlands, has recently introduced kiosks known as Scan&Fly which allow customers to check in their own luggage. These kiosks were designed by Type22, an EU based baggage handling company.
According to a video posted by Type22, the process only requires a few steps. First, the user places his bag on the conveyer belt. He then scans his boarding pass and receives a bag tag, which is then attached to the luggage. After confirming on the kiosk that the tag is attached, the traveler receives a claim tag and the bag moves down the conveyer belt to its destination.
Airport employees greet customers just before they reach the Scan&Fly kiosks. The employees are available to help the customers if they need further instruction on how to utilize the kiosks. According to a press release by Type22, the airport was highly pleased by the kiosks.
“This is faster than the traditionally check-in desks,” said Ivar van der Smaal, Project Manager of Eindhoven Airport in an interview with Type22. “We believe that this is the future of the check-in process at airports.” Currently, users of the kiosks have given them a rating of 9.2 out of 10, and 83 percent of them said they would recommend the kiosks to their friends, family, and coworkers.
