Warner Bros., hoping to extend the 28-day delay that streaming and DVD kiosks must adhere to before renting new releases, may be getting push back from two of its biggest customers, according to the Sacramento Bee.
It stated that Dish Network Corp.'s Blockbuster and Coinstar Inc., operator of redbox DVD kiosks, are pushing back against the Time Warner Inc. film unit's efforts to make consumers wait 56 days before they can rent the latest releases.
However, Coinstar wouldn't confirm or deny the newspaper's speculation.
The current agreement Coinstar has with Warner Bros. is to receive movie titles 28 days after their release. "No revised agreements are in place," Coinstar's Marci Mule wrote in an email to KioskMarketplace.com
The agreement between Warner Bros. and Coinstar will expire at the end of the month; Coinstar would not comment on the likelihood of a renewal.
Dish Network did not respond before publication.
