Onondaga County in New York is deploying touchscreen kiosks to modernize county government and make some program application processes easier, according to CNYcentral.com. These touchscreen kiosks are the latest project of kiosk manufaturer and software developer Phoenix Kiosks.

"It's a lot faster, and we don't have to wait for a long time. It saves time for us," a food stamp applicant told the station.

According to the report, the new kiosks cost more than $126,000 and are being used to re-certify a range of applications, from food stamps to temporary assistance for families to emergency assistance for shelters.

"Those are folks that are taking advantage of the automation. They're being able to move on with their day and at the same time tax payers aren't being asked to pay for the staff to do work that can be automated," Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney told the station.
