Colonial Williamsburg upgrades with digital ticketing kiosks

The reconstructed 18th century city of Colonial Williamsburg is attempting to improve customer experience with digital ticketing kiosks.

August 12, 2015

Colonial Williamsburg, the restored 18th century capital of Williamsburg, Virginia, has integratedLivewire Digital ticketing kiosks to improve customer experience, according to a Livewire press release.

Colonial Williamsburg features a number of services including live-action reenactments, historical buildings, sports clubs and a water park. However, the various buildings and attractions had different operating hours which made providing ticketing services difficult. In addition, no modern technology is allowed inside Colonial Williamsburg.

In order to address this issue, Colonial Williamsburg installed ticketing kiosks just outside the gates of the restored city and in the local visitor center. Visitors can either purchase tickets from the kiosk or redeem vouchers purchased online.

"Technology for technology's sake wasn't an option at Colonial Williamsburg," said Livewire President and CEO David McCracken in the release. "The solution would incorporate cutting-edge technology, but it also simply needed it to work. It was important not to take away from the overall feel and flavor of the attraction."
