Coinstar is at it again. No longer satisfied with ruling the coin-counting and the DVD kiosk industries, it's been piloting several new kiosk projects, including a machine that vends coffee and one that sells gadgets. Its newest project is Star Studio, a photo kiosk geared toward teens. The company is currently testing nine in Southern California, said Marci Maul, Coinstar spokesperson.
A video screen inside the photo booth gives users a preprogrammed virtual experience, such as a fashion shoot, a trip around the world or a concert, according to bizjournals.com. Music, lights and a director's voice add to the experience. Customers not only get copies of the photos, but they can email the pictures to themselves for posting online.
