Civiq Smartscapes to install internet kiosks with 55-inch touchscreens in downtown Chicago

January 25, 2017

Civiq Smartscapes said it will install internet kiosks with 55-inch touchscreens as part of an AT&T Smart Cities pilot, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The company will install five interactive Civiq Waypoint touchscreen kiosks on Michigan Avenue and in other locations downtown.

Officials would not give exact locations for the devices, but a rendering showed one kiosk at the northeast corner of Michigan and Ontario Street.

The kiosks will dispense free Wi-Fi, while the screens themselves provide information about attractions, activities and points of interest, which could be tailored to people based on past interactions.

In the future, the technology could be used to activate public transportation systems, light poles and city services to respond to citizen needs, said George Burciaga, managing director of global development and innovation of Civiq Smartscapes.
