Chicago suburb introduces interactive informational kiosks

October 18, 2019

The city of Aurora, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, has officially activated eight interactive informational kiosks known as Cityposts, which the city council approved about a year ago, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The kiosks will allow residents and visitors to access listings for restaurants, businesses and attractions, then transfer those to a map on their smartphone.

Smart City Media LLC, which provided the kiosks and covered the installation costs, will award the city 25% of the advertising revenue generated, according to the five-year contract. Officials estimated the advertising will bring in about $700,000 over 10 years. About 60% of the kiosk content will be local, including local advertising and city provided content, with the balance coming from national ads.
