A LinkNYC wireless internet kiosk installed in Brooklyn, New York in late July has become a concierge for a neighborhood "drug den," enabling people to schedule drug purchases and warn each other about police, according to dnainfo.com.
Drug users can be seen and heard at the terminal, arranging meet ups, then disappearing into a building known to be a drug spot around the corner, then reappearing visibly drugged, according to business owners and residents.
Police have made five arrests at the address for criminal possession of a controlled substance, assault, strangulation and menacing, records show.
Since installation in July, the kiosks have become the latest flashpoint along Manhattan Avenue in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, where issues of opioid addiction and homelessness have manifested themselves.
