Blood pressure kiosks bring free heart screenings to Charlotte YMCAs

The American Heart Association - Greater Charlotte and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte have installed self-service blood pressure kiosks at four YMCA locations in North Carolina's Mecklenburg County, according to a press release.

The kiosks offer free screenings and cardiovascular health information to YMCA members and other community visitors during regular operating hours.

The kiosks are available at the Brace Family YMCA in Matthews and the McCrorey, Morrison Family and Simmons YMCA centers in Charlotte. Together, the four locations are expected to serve more than 4,200 people each month, including an estimated 1,500 users at Brace and 1,200 at McCrorey.

Users can check their blood pressure independently, receive immediate results and access information about hypertension prevention and healthy habits. The kiosks can also connect users with health care providers, community programs and other support services. The Heart Association says nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure, which often produces no symptoms and can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
