The Indiana Historical Society is launching an interactive informational kiosk that maps the state's sites that are significant to Black history, according to a WISHTV 8 report.
The kiosk will feature a touchscreen map of Indiana and was originally designed to be a website, but is now featured as a kiosk inside the city's History Center. It highlights about 90 historical sites.
IHS received funding for the kiosk from the Indianapolis government and public affairs firm, Winston/Terrell Group. Most of the historical research for the kiosk was completed by Von Watts of the 8393 Creative youth nonprofit.
Creating an interactive tool to explore Black history ahead of this month's Juneteenth holiday was central to the project. "It's a critical piece of everything we do," Jody Blankenship, president of IHS, told the news outlet. "People come in, they want to interact with things, they want touch. They want to explore on their own terms and in their own way … [It's] absolutely critical both for the youth and families that come in."
