Gold Coast, Australia, is performing a trial run with tablet and standard self-service bill-payment kiosks to allow residents to pay water bills and other government services, according to a report by Computer World.

Residents can scan their bill notice at the kiosk or type in the notice number. From there, they enter the payment amount. They can choose between full or installment payments. The tablet used for payments, known as Albert, was developed by CommBank and was launched this March.

"Many customers prefer to pay their notices over the counter, so these kiosks give the Gold Coast community, especially our seniors, an alternative option when paying their rates," Gold Coast Deputy Mayor Donna Gates said.

The tablet kiosk is being deployed at Elanora and Runaway Bay libraries for 12 months. The standard kiosk is located at the Surfers Paradise customer service center.
