Aurora, Illinois, city council approves Smart City kiosk contract

October 26, 2018

After weeks of study and discussion, the city council in Aurora, Illinois, has voted to proceed with the installation of eight informational kiosks to be provided through a contract with New York-based Smart City Media LLC.

The kiosks will provide wayfinding assistance and information about the city of Aurora and its local businesses. At the request of downtown merchants, advertising by national retailers will be limited to 40 percent of all ad sales, according to a report by GovTech.

According to the GovTech article, the city chose to work with Smart City in large part due to its installation in the Kansas City metro, which placed kiosks at the airport, the University of Missouri – Kansas City campus and other key locations around the city.

Installation of the Aurora kiosks could begin as early as spring, 2019, the report said.
