Identity verification provider Au10tix has integrated its technology into self-service kiosks from Australian automation company Neo, bringing biometric identity checks to gaming, wagering and hospitality venues, according to a BiometricUpdate.com report. The terminals can perform document authentication, facial biometric matching, liveness detection, age assurance and fraud checks, allowing customers to complete identity verification without being redirected to an employee.

Customers scan an identity document and capture a live facial image at the kiosk. The system authenticates the document, checks that the person is physically present and compares the facial image with the photograph on the identification. The companies said the technology can make identity verification workflows up to 10 times faster than manual processing. Tasks such as card replacement, that previously took 30 to 40 minutes, can now potentially be completed within minutes.

Au10tix and Neo said the technology is already being used in Australian gaming and hospitality venues, although they did not disclose the number of customers, kiosks or transactions involved. Australia is the first market for the partnership, with expansion planned for Asia, the United States and Europe. Biometric deployments also raise privacy requirements because facial biometric information can be considered sensitive information under Australian privacy law.
