Ohio-based telemedicine startup, HealthSpot, which calls itself the "ATM for health care," will begin deploying its "Care4 Station" kiosks in the first quarter of 2012 throughout Ohio pharmacies, grocery stores and employer sites.
The company is running a pilot study with primary care group Central Ohio Primary Care and will stick to Ohio clinics for its first phase of roll outs. It plans to eventually offer services throughout the nation, according to a story in Med City News.
The kiosks have high-definition video conferencing capabilities and integrated digital medical equipment that can send doctors diagnostic information like temperature and blood pressure.
An attendant would be on hand for technical help and to clean the machines. Cost per appointment will range from $59 to $69, according to CEO Steve Cashman, who also said in the interview that his company's mission is to create the "highest-quality, most efficient healthcare appointment."
HealthSpot has thus far pulled in about $6 million in equity and has several prominent investors, including former Gartner CEO Manny Fernandez, MemberHealth founder Chuck Hallberg and Columbus-area pharmaceuticals distributor Cardinal Health, Ohio's largest company by revenues.
