KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, explored the impact of self-order kiosks on restaurant jobs and concluded in its report there is no indication that kiosks are adversely affecting jobs.
The report acknowledged research suggests the technology can increase demand and actually lead to more jobs.
Panera has said the technology can lead to more jobs, the report noted, and McDonald's has stated it does not plan to reduce the number of employees as it introduces self-order kiosks.
The report also quoted the owner of a local restaurant, Beaver Choice in Mesa, Arizona, saying the introduction of kiosks will not reduce the number of employees.
"There is potential that technology will cause a loss in jobs, but we're not seeing it yet," the report stated.
