Many children have fantasies of becoming superheroes, and many adults still secretly enjoy the thought of having superpowers. Australian residents in Sydney and Brisbane got a chance to find their inner superhero with an augmented reality kiosk, which promoted the movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which came out on March 25. The kiosk, deployed by outdoor advertiser JCDecaux, challenged pedestrians to pick sides in a grand superhero grudge match between Batman and Superman.
At the outdoor kiosks, pedestrians could select Batman or Superman as their hero. From there, the kiosk would allow the user to see their face projected onto the outfit of the superhero they chose. This deployment was performed through a partnership between movie studio Roadshow Films and JCDecaux Australia.
The kiosk used augmented reality technology to project the user's face onto the touchscreen, according to a video by JCDecaux. The kiosk directed users to stand at a certain spot and wait until the countdown finished to see their face in the Batman or Superman costume. Users could also adjust the fit of their face with the costume. From there, they could share the images on social media platforms.
