Uber, the app-based car service, recently rolled out an innovative kiosk solution to fight drunk driving — and possibly to serve as an antidote to recent unflattering press and underscore its commitment to safety.
The company deployed an Uber Safe breathalyzer kiosk in Toronto that let late-night revelers check their blood alcohol content and score free Uber rides if they were over the legal limit.
According to the Uber website:
Safety has always been our number one priority at Uber, so on one of the busiest nights of the year for alcohol consumption, we teamed up with [independent creative agency] Rethink to help Canadians get home safe. Check out the video below and watch how those who stumbled upon the Uber Safe kiosk were able to request a free ride home.
Uber, the app that connects riders with drivers, has developed a curb-side breathalyzer to help keep streets safe. The custom-built kiosk helps guide users to hail a driver for a safe ride home, simply by blowing into it. The Uber Safe Breathalyzer is outfitted with disposable straws, a tablet and the Uber app, and a breathalyzer that analyzes the alcohol content in their breath after blowing continuously for 6 seconds.
