Zytronic enables object recognition on multitouch sensors

October 20, 2016

Zytronic, a touch sensor company, has teamed up with Tangible Display to integrate object recognition capability into its multitouch glass and foil sensors at sizes up to 85 inches diagonally. The technology is designed to ignore certain objects that might come into contact with the touchscreen, such as a cup or bag, according to a press release.

Tangible Display's object recognition software, ObjectViz, is designed to track particular objects through the use of physical "markers." A customer in a car showroom could select different car models and place them on a touch table. The table would then identify the model, and display the car's individual stats.

The solution is also designed to ignore items that do not fit specific "tags." For instance, if a customer puts down a cell phone on the touchscreen, ObjectViz would identify it and ignore it.

"This Zytronic and Tangible Display collaboration makes it even easier for our clients to deploy object recognition technology and greatly expands the potential market for this technology. The performance accuracy of the Zytronic MPCT sensors meant that we were able to integrate our object recognition solution smoothly," Jimmy Ricaut, CEO and founder of Tangible Display, said in the release. "Together, we worked on improving the noise rejection of the solution, allowing outstanding sensing accuracy to be achieved on very large screens."
