White Castle has unveiled its "Castle of Tomorrow," a next-generation restaurant prototype designed to enhance efficiency, hospitality and customer experience while maintaining the chain's signature look, according to a press release.
The Columbus, Ohio location, developed in partnership with WD Partners, marks the latest evolution in the 104-year-old company's restaurant design. Features include a double drive-thru with hospitality doors, a mobile order pickup window, self-service kiosks and upgraded back-of-house layouts aimed at improving team member comfort and workflow.
The restaurant also incorporates automation and AI. It includes an updated version of "Flippy," the robotic fry assistant, and "Julia," an AI-powered drive-thru ordering system. Both technologies are supported by staff members to ensure smooth service.
"This new Castle reflects the best of who we are — passionate about innovation, hospitality and our people," Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle, said in the release. "Every detail, from the kitchen layout to the mobile ordering experience, was thoughtfully designed to help our team members shine and to make every Craver's visit more enjoyable and efficient."
The building retains the brand's classic castle-inspired architecture but adds modern lighting and signage that transforms from "White Castle" by day to "Night Castle" after dark. The prototype represents the company's ongoing effort to combine tradition with new technology and strengthen its appeal to modern diners.
