Walmart's AI catches shoplifter at self-checkout

A Walmart shopper found herself on the wrong side of the law after being caught shoplifting by the store's AI surveillance system, according to an International Business Times report. The incident has sparked discussions about the increasing use of technology to deter theft.
The incident was caught in a viral TikTok video. The woman, identified as Nesha, can be seen scanning a few items at a self-checkout but then discreetly adding a backpack to her bag without paying.
The AI system immediately flagged the suspicious activity, prompting a store employee to intervene.
"Even though she laughed... she called the manager, police and had us escorted outside," Nesha wrote in the caption.
