Vodafone launches interactive kiosk rollout

November 7, 2002

NEWBURY, England -- Global telecommunications company Vodafone Corp. is rolling out a network of interactive kiosks in its UK stores to introduce customers to new prepaid mobile phone services.

Each networked store will provide content based on that store's data and customer trends, according to a news release. The Hub is producing content for the kiosks, and NetShift Software Ltd. is handling remote management.

"In partnership with The Hub we have created a cutting edge assisted sales solution for which we anticipate growing demand," said NetShift CEO Nigel Seed. "As new product propositions become increasingly complex, customers will turn to interactive self-service to research, learn about and decide on their potential purchases."

The kiosks, which run on Fujitsu hardware and feature plasma screens, are in 270 outlets across the UK. Vodafone's plans call for the rollout in more than 2,000 retail stores and indirect channel retailers, according to the release.

"People are becoming more familiar with interactivity and respond well to interactivity in the whole retail environment," The Hub CEO Sam Rudder said in the release. "Even if they do not use the touchscreens, they are impressed by the plasma screens and understand the concept."
