Virginia's Blue Ridge (formerly the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau) has announced that it is deploying informational kiosks across the Blue Ridge region to attract more visitors. The kiosks are designed to showcase the area's mixture of mountainous and metropolitan attractions, according to a report by WSLS 10.
The bureau plans to deploy 20 kiosks in high-traffic areas and at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke. Each kiosk costs about $3,000, according to the report.
"The way we measure our success is the number of people that visit our website,” said Landon Howard, president of Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge. "So, we've been seeing upwards to 2,200 new customers per day taking a look at our website."
The bureau ran a similar kiosk campaign with Kroger two years ago. That campaign attracted almost 600,000 visitors and brought in $185 million in direct spending, according to the report.
